The housing measures in Great Britain are still due to be lifted at 23:59 on 31 March 2021. But the Avian Influenza Prevention Zone remains in place. Heightened biosecurity is absolutely vital as the risk of avian influenza has not gone away as demonstrated by the recent new cases.

Due to the remaining wild bird and environmental risks, when birds are released it will be mandatory for them to be in a penned area and ponds and watercourses must be fenced off.

See our latest avian influenza updates here: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/avian-influenza-bird-flu

Please note that housing remains mandatory for all poultry and captive birds located in the 3km Protection Zone surrounding an infected premises. You can check where disease control zones are currently located and if you are in zone on our interactive map. https://defra.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=8cb1883eda5547c6b91b5d5e6aeba90d
