***Edit*** I have had time to sleep off a rowdy swing shift. Our beloved surgeon stayed well past 10pm last night helping our critical care team. I will post details about the surgery when he has written his surgical report. I took a moment away to buy him a bottled water, and the relief in his eyes made me feel good, he hadn’t taken a moment to himself all day. On the way out I thanked him for everything he does – his response – “I am glad you notice” – We all notice. And it helps us get through our days. Today we performed the worlds first Perimemloranous Outlet VSD on a canine and cardiac bypass began around 7am – our Surgeon has been here for the last 12 hours (surgery concluded at 5pm 😳) and continues to quietly, personally, monitor his patient in the Critical Care Unit. Folks, this is what dedication looks like. This is love, the excellence continued for patient care. I respect him so much.
